Empowering Women through financial confidence

Writer's picture: She Talks AsiaShe Talks Asia

One of the questions we always encounter from women in our community gatherings is how to be better at handling one’s finances. We noticed that despite growing awareness about the importance of financial freedom, talking and asking about money matters still comes with a lot of fear and shame for many women. We partnered with AIA Philippines for an intimate and meaningful #STAConversations event around financial well-being, and how we can unlearn our limiting mindsets about money. Through this collaboration, we uncovered powerful insights that we wish to share with all of you.

Here are our five key takeaways from the discussion:

💡 Prioritizing Yourself Isn’t Selfish—It’s Essential

AIA CEO Melita Teo reminded us that many women are conditioned to put others first, often setting aside their own financial goals in the process. But caring for ourselves—financially, emotionally, and physically—is not an act of selfishness; it’s an investment in our future. When we take control of our finances, we gain the security and confidence to support both ourselves and our loved ones.

💡 Awareness Is the First Step to Financial Growth

According to Mariel Bitanga, founder of Simply Finance PH, facing our financial realities is both necessary and empowering. Many of us avoid looking too closely at our spending habits or savings because it feels overwhelming, but true growth starts with awareness. Understanding where we stand financially gives us the power to make informed decisions and build a solid foundation for the future. Click here to watch

💡 Open Conversations Build Stronger Foundations

Money can be a difficult topic to discuss, especially in relationships, but Janna Simpao, founder of Bride and Breakfast, emphasized the importance of having honest financial conversations with our partners. Whether planning for a wedding, a family, or a business, transparency about money helps prevent misunderstandings and ensures that both partners are aligned in their financial goals. Listen to Janna’s insights here.

💡 Financial Security = Peace of Mind

Financial planning isn’t just about accumulating wealth—it’s about having the assurance that we’re prepared for life’s uncertainties. Melissa Henson, AIA Philippines’ Chief Marketing Officer, highlighted how the right insurance plan can serve as a safety net, allowing us to move forward with confidence even when unexpected challenges arise.
